At UA, it is important to create content, edit content, and purchase technologies with accessibility in mind.
What is accessibility?
Accessibility ensures that products, services, and environments are available and usable for all individuals. Adjustments made to improve accessibility often benefit everyone, not just those that experience disability.
The Web Accessibility Perspectives video provides an overview of 10 areas of accessibility:
For links to individual videos and more information on each topic, please see Web Accessibility Perspectives: Explore the Impact and Benefits for Everyone.
What is technology accessibility?
Technology accessibility refers to the degree to which technology tools and resource can be used by the greatest number of people, including persons with disabilities. Since we starting using information technology in education, most institutions have been meeting the needs of persons with disabilities through accommodations.
Accommodations are request-based, reactive adjustments made once an accessibility need is known. For example, if a student needs extra time on a test, they may receive an accommodation that allows them the extra time they need.
